I present to you Zobo Drink (Hibiscus Tea).


For the Zobo leaf, when you get to the market, look out for the one that's a bit dark red in color. 

Research shows that those ones has a higher Vitamin C, Calcium and Ash content. 


Hibiscus or Zobo leaves is full of antioxidants, and rich in Vitamin C, and its especially good to relief high blood pressure, high cholesterol, as well as to assist the digestive and immune system. 


It’s calming and soothing effect also help in calming and soothing effects also help in treating Anxiety. 


*Option 1.*

- Place about one cup of water and few lemongrass in a saucepan and bring to a boil for 1 minute. 


- Pour into a cup 


- Peel back of orange, try not to peel the white spongy part as it's bitter. 


- Remove the lemongrass infusion from the heat and add your few orange peels and the 1 tablespoon of dry Hibiscus flowers (Zobo leaves). 


- Cover and let it steep for 5 - 8 minutes until the color is leached from the Hibiscus petals. 


- Strain 


- Pour into a cup and add honey for the added minerals such as magnesium and zinc that also supports the immune system. 


You can serve either cold or hot. 

Though you don't need a lot of sweetener when refrigerated, as cold mask the tagines from hibiscus / Zobo. 


Give your immune system a boost and stimulate your energy level with a cup of this Hibiscus / Zobo Tea. 



*Option 2*

INGREDIENTS

- 4 Cups of Zobo leaves


- 2-3 litres of water 


- 1 Cinnamon stick or 1 tablespoon Cinnamon powder 


- 1 whole Ripened Pineapple (blend for sweetening) 


- 2 tablespoons cloves (Konafuru) 


- 6 thumbs of ginger


- Honey (optional) when serving for people who cannot withstand the sour taste of Zobo 


- Large pot, glass cups, a knife and a spoon 



PROCEDURE

Wash or rinse Zobo leaves to remove dirts, dust. It's okay if the water turns red, it's not going to have any impact on it. Just wash or rinse it off quickly.

Rinse properly and discard the water. 


Place your washed Zobo leaves into a large clean pot. 


Add your cloves, Cinnamon 


 Cover your Zobo leaves with water. 


Place on medium heat 


As its heating up, peel the back of your ginger


Wash the back of your whole pineapple very well 


Peel the back of the pineapple and rinse again as you don't want any dirt into your Zobo. 


Add the pineapple back into your pot on heat. It's medicinal and has a very distinct flavor. 


Cut pineapple into small pieces, put into blender together with your ginger, add little water and blend till smooth. Blending the pineapple makes the Zobo much more sweeter, also, blending the ginger makes the Zobo thick. This process end up in a very delicious silky, thick zobo. Pour the mixture into your pot. 


Bring your Zobo into a boil for 10 minutes because we don't want to distroy the Vitamin C content of the Zobo. 


Boil for 5 minutes if you use high heat. 


Take out the heat and cover your Zobo  and allow to sit for 2 hours or overnight if you like because the flavours are so intense the longer you leave it to sit. 


Drain in a colander 


Run through a final sieve or a cheese clothes just to make it extra smooth. 


Your Zobo Tea is ready. There's no need for sugar, this is medicine. 


You can serve it hot as a Tea 


You can serve it cold with ice and cucumber slices, cocktail style. 


Either way, this drink is amazing and medicinal.
